Sudden and unexpected deaths have soared in Germany following the start of the covid vaccination campaign in 2021, according to recently released data on the insurance of 72 million people.
The number of sudden deaths has more than doubled since the vaccine was introduced at the end of 2020, from around 6,000 per quarter to 14,000 today. The difference, 8,000, means that more than 80 people die suddenly every day (1).
The data, based on the medical records of 72 million Germans, come from the Association of Doctors of the Compulsory Health Insurance (KBV), which German parliamentarian Martin Sichert and data analyst Tom Lausen forced to publish.
It is unclear why the German government’s drug regulator, the Paul Ehrlich Institute, has not published this data. In 2020, the German government standardised the use of insurance data to monitor potential harm from vaccines, but this law does not appear to have been enforced.
Sichert and Lausen made their findings public at a press conference on Monday (2).
Professor Stefan Homburg, former director of the Institute of Public Finance at the University of Hannover, has argued that “since vaccination began in early 2021, sudden and unexpected deaths have skyrocketed. This is what the new KBV data on the 72 million insured show” (3).
The data do not show that vaccines are causing the rise in sudden deaths, reminds the Central Institute for Health Care of the Compulsory Health Insurance. Vaccines only save lives, they do not end lives.
However, the data are consistent with previous German insurance reports, which show that the number of recorded cases of vaccine side events requiring medical treatment increased more than 30-fold in 2021 compared to 2019 and 2020.
